ERNIE AND ERNESTINA: Searching

Book Two, Chapter 113: Post-Christy Thoughts

I tell Joshua what’s on my mind.

“I will no longer communicate in any way with Christy. No more e-mails or letters or phone calls, not that we did much of that anyway. But no more. I’m convinced she does not know you and does not love you. She distorts the person you are.”

I say more.

“You will burn yourself out trying to please her. There’s no way to please her. Nothing is ever enough for her. In your nearly fourteen years with her, your daddy and I were too much a part of it. Invasive. So, I withdraw all interest in Christy. Christy is not my business.”

I am my business, and as I write these words . . . she does not know you and does not love you. She distorts the person you are . . . I see me. The me I was with myself and with Ernie. The me I will be no more.

My writer husband’s favorite nickname for me was Ernestina, so in this 2-book memoir, he is Ernie. This is his story, our story, and my story. I invite you in.
